Sierra Nevada Memorial Hospital has once again been awarded an "A" Hospital Safety Grade by The Leapfrog Group, a respected national nonprofit watchdog. With this being our second consecutive "A" rating, it underscores the dedication of our exceptional physicians and staff.
SNMH Top Rural Hospital Award
In December 2023, staff and community members gathered to celebrate the SNMH award from Leapfrog as a Top Rural Hospital. We are one of only 15 rural hospitals in the country to earn this honor. In addition, we are the only hospital in the state of California to receive this award in 2023.
The highest performing hospitals on the Leapfrog Hospital Survey are recognized annually with the prestigious Leapfrog Top Hospital award. Top Hospitals have better systems in place to prevent medication errors, higher quality on maternity care and lower infection rates, among other laudable qualities.
It is in part due to your unwavering dedication and support over the years that we have been able to achieve this incredible honor. Thank you for your commitment to ensuring we have access to high quality healthcare in Western Nevada County.
SNMH Ambulance Teams Receives Clinical Excellence Award from California Emergency Medical Services Authority
On September 6th, 2023, Sierra Nevada Ambulance and GVFD Engine 2 (ALS) responded to a medical emergency at a local business for a person who had fainted. Upon arrival, the initial fire department crew found the patient on the floor with bystander CPR being performed. Realizing the patient had choked, they cleared the airway, initiated high-quality CPR, and started advanced cardiac life support measures. Additional manpower was requested with the arrival of a second fire engine. When Sierra Nevada Ambulance arrived, Paramedic Toor took over patient care, supported by GVFD and SNA Supervisor Dane Meredith. With EMT Corchero, they provided lifesaving emergency medical care, achieving return of spontaneous circulation. The patient was transported to Sierra Nevada Memorial Hospital Emergency Department, regaining consciousness upon arrival, and was subsequently admitted to the ICU. On September 15th, the patient was discharged with full neurological function.
The LUCAS device, used for automatic CPR, was crucial in this effort and was purchased by the SNMH Foundation Area of Greatest Need fund.
