What is the Bourn Vincent Society

Starting in 2024, the Bourn Vincent Society was established to formally recognize individuals providing transformational support to the SNMH Foundation. This esteemed group honors a range of profound commitments, including:

Planned Gift Contributors: Those who have made a planned gift to the Foundation through their estate plans
Annual Leadership Donors: Individuals who contribute $10,000 or more annually
Lifetime Philanthropists: Those whose cumulative lifetime giving exceeds $25,000

Its core mission is to build a lasting financial foundation for the Sierra Nevada Memorial Hospital, ensuring its capacity to adapt, innovate, and thrive well into the future, while honoring the dedication and legacy of its members.

Arthur William Bourn Vincent

Vincent Bourn

William Bourn was the owner of the famous Empire Mine in Grass Valley, California, reputed to be one of the largest, deepest, longest and richest gold mines in California. In 1869, William Bowers Bourn acquired the mine under the banner of the Empire Mine Company.

The Bourn family owned and operated the Empire Mine Company for the next six decades. The family sold the mine to the Newmont Mining Company in 1929 and continued to care deeply about the mine employees and the Grass Valley and Nevada City communities. They knew having healthcare was essential to a thriving community.

The family established a trust with Sierra Nevada Memorial Hospital as an income beneficiary of the trust which benefited the endowment at SNMH Foundation. The majority of the endowment principle at SNMH Foundation is due to the generosity of the Bourn Vincent family. The naming of this society is to honor the perpetuity of their incredible legacy that will benefit our community for generations to come.
